• A1 Dampcoursing Rising Damp quote

  A1 Dampcoursing completed a quote following the HIPS report indicating damp within the property I'm purchasing. The survey was completed within 2 days and a written report issued within a further 2 days (free of charge). The quote indicated that there was no damp and no remedial work to be completed. So whilst I can't comment on workmanship I would highly rate the company as they could have easily ripped me off and quoted for unesessary works. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Rising Damp

Rising damp is usually found in older buildings dating back to a time when damp coursing services were not available. It is also a problem in buildings which were originally used for something other than a home (Business or barn conversion) It is caused when moisture is allowed to rise by capillary action due to the absence of an injected damp course. This usually leads to the discolouration of decoration, wall paper peeling, paint blistering and other symptoms associated with rising damp and in severe cases is recognized by visible soluble salt residue. If left the end result is fungal growth and dry rot within the timber, which could lead to structural issues.

Following professional diagnosis by our qualified staff, the recommended treatment is generally an injected damp course.

Woodworm

Woodworm is a term used to describe the most common species of wood boring insects. Infestations are recognized by the appearance of tiny holes within any wooden structure, be it your house or your sofa. It is usually accompanied by the presence of bore dust. These signs indicate that woodworm are actively tunneling inside the wood causing internal structural damage.

Treatment following professional diagnosis normally requires modern insecticidal fluids to be applied to all exposed areas of timber. Deep penetrating emulsified wood paste preservative may be required on heavy dimensional timbers.

Dry Rot

Timbers which become damp and which lack adequate ventilation are most susceptible to dry rot attack. Infected timber is deprived of its natural strength and may be reduced to a brittle cracked state. Once established the rot may spread through adjoining brickwork or masonry in search of further wood to attack and unless checked may eventually cause untold damage.

Fast, accurate professional diagnosis is required to minimise costly repairs normally necessitating the removal of all degenerated timber and wall plaster in the vicinity of the rot outbreak followed by thorough sterilisation with a concentrated fungicidal solution.

Tanking

The word 'tanking' is a civil engineering term and is the process of preventing moisture ingress into structures built partially or wholly below ground level. The most effective way to waterproof a below-ground level structure is to tank on the external face. This keeps the structure dry and free from attack by ground salts.
A1 Dampcoursing methods of internal tanking: TANKING SLURRY - is a single component polymer modified cement system for application to walls and floors. The product is mixed with water and when applied correctly forms a highly effective damp proof membrane that can be applied to brickwork, concrete, blockwork or any cementitious substrate.

Alternatively, if required we use a studded membrane system which is dry lined over to damp-proofing standards.
